In the first months of 2020, call for papers 2022 Special Issue Annals American Association Geographers was circulated. It invited that engage with multiple forms and meanings displacements their geographies: patterns shifting, dislocation, or putting out place; substitutions one idea another unconscious transfer intense feelings emotions; activities occurring outside normal context; replacements thing by another. The COVID-19 pandemic, declared World Health Organization shortly after, produced new intensified existing displacement dispossession, including human more-than-human mobilities immobilities. At same time, socionatural displacements—floods, fires, droughts, hurricanes, sea-level rise, species loss, dislocation—were backdrop to displaced deferred hopes 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference. twenty-seven articles in this special issue contend how we as geographers conceptualize theorize displacements; range sites, spaces, processes, affects, scales, actors study understand them; what is at stake politically research displacements. also a pandemic archive academic labor, which find traces within beyond our discipline.
